August 2026 Venice Louisiana Fishing Report

Limit of yellowfin tuna in venice la

August has continued to deliver excellent fishing in Venice, Louisiana, with anglers having plenty of options from the Mississippi River Delta all the way into the Gulf of Mexico. Redfish and speckled trout have provided excellent inshore action, while red snapper, yellowfin tuna, and a variety of other species have kept our nearshore and offshore trips busy.

One of the biggest advantages of fishing Venice this time of year is the variety. Depending on the weather, tides, and what our clients want to catch, we can spend the day fishing the marsh for redfish, work the beaches and rigs for trout and snapper, or head offshore into the Gulf in search of yellowfin tuna and other pelagic species.

Here’s what anglers can expect fishing Venice as we finish August and head into the fall season.

Venice, Louisiana Inshore Fishing Remains Strong

Inshore fishing around Venice has remained excellent through late summer.

Redfish and speckled trout remain our primary targets, and the relatively stable conditions we’ve experienced this summer have produced consistent fishing throughout the Mississippi River Delta.

One of our most productive patterns has been targeting speckled trout early before transitioning to redfish as conditions change throughout the day. We’ve been finding trout around the beaches and offshore structure before moving farther inside to target redfish.

The ability to target multiple species in the same trip is one reason Venice offers such a productive inshore fishery.

For anglers who want to concentrate on redfish, speckled trout, and other inshore species, our Venice Louisiana Inshore Fishing Charters offer several trip options depending on how much time you want to spend on the water.

Redfish Fishing in Venice Louisiana

Redfish continue to be one of the stars of the show.

The Venice marsh provides an enormous amount of habitat for reds, and we’ve been able to adjust our fishing based on tides and daily conditions.

Outgoing tides have been particularly productive. As water begins moving out of the marsh, bait gets pulled through points, drains, and cuts, creating feeding opportunities for redfish.

The stable Mississippi River conditions and lack of major storms through much of the summer have helped keep our inshore fishing consistent.

As we move into September and the fall season, redfish will continue to be a major part of our Venice fishing trips.

Redfish fishing should remain a major part of our inshore trips as we move deeper into fall. Our Fall Redfish Fishing in Venice Louisiana guide covers what we typically see from September through November.

Speckled Trout Along the Beaches and Rigs

Speckled trout have also provided plenty of action.

We’ve found trout around the beaches and offshore rigs early in the day, then transition back toward the marsh for redfish.

This creates a great combination trip. We can start the morning targeting speckled trout, then move back inside to focus on redfish as the tide begins moving.

Conditions around the Mississippi River Delta can change quickly, so our captains adjust each trip based on weather, tides, water conditions, and where we’ve been finding fish.

Red Snapper Fishing Near Venice Louisiana

Red snapper have been another major part of our summer fishing.

The snapper bite has been extremely strong, with easy limits on many of our trips. This summer we’ve caught red snapper as close as approximately one mile offshore, with some fish reaching around 15 pounds.

We limited out on nearly 100% of our chartered red snapper trips during the hottest part of the summer bite.

Venice is unique because productive snapper structure can sometimes be found surprisingly close to shore. That gives anglers opportunities to experience excellent saltwater fishing without necessarily making the long runs associated with a full offshore tuna trip.

Yellowfin Tuna Fishing Offshore

For anglers looking for a completely different experience, yellowfin tuna remain one of the premier offshore targets out of Venice.

Our summer offshore trips have produced quality yellowfin tuna along with mahi mahi and a few wahoo.

The waters offshore of the Mississippi River Delta provide access to one of the most diverse offshore fisheries on the Gulf Coast. A day targeting tuna can produce opportunities at several different pelagic species depending on conditions.

That’s part of what makes offshore fishing from Venice so exciting—you never know what else might show up while you’re chasing tuna.

Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, Cobia and Tripletail

Yellowfin haven’t been the only offshore fish keeping anglers busy.

We’ve caught mahi mahi and a few wahoo offshore, while cobia and tripletail have also started making appearances.

These bonus species are part of what makes summer fishing in Venice so much fun. You can leave the dock with one plan and end up encountering several completely different species throughout the day.

We’ve even caught flounder and some large blue catfish around the Delta, adding even more variety to an already diverse fishery.
